All rack manufacturers are not created equal. The Rack Manufacturer’s Institute promotes the safe design and use of storage racks and wire decks through research, testing, preparation of specifications, education, and more. In fact, The RMI is the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) accredited developer of storage rack standards and administers the R-Mark Certification Program.
Why is R-Mark Certification important?
Here’s Why.
You may have noticed most rack sellers who offer prices that are too good to be true don’t offer and won’t give you capacity charts. As the picture demonstrates, knowing how much the rack can hold is pretty important. The rack that does not have an RMI certification may not hold everything that is placed on it. This makes the seemingly inexpensive rack pretty pricey in the long run.
That’s why everything we stock for you comes from RMI-certified companies.
Knowing the reputation of your suppliers can go a long way toward your peace of mind and knowing you’re getting the best rack systems for the price. I’m proud to be working with a team that’s been a trusted supplier for over 25 years.
How to Ensure You’re Getting the Good Stuff
- Capacity Charts. If you can’t easily get the capacities, the rack is probably not RMI certified and may not even be new.
- Does the Manufacturer have an R-Mark? You can check the list of certified companies on the RMI Website here.
- Buy New Rack. RMI does a little hand-waving about used and surplus racks, but the capacity of used racks may not meet requirements. Any rack manufacturer’s fine print will state that they waive the warranty if you mix their stuff with other brands. You are best off going with all-new racking.
We’ve all had customers that shop exclusively on price. While price is an important factor, considering price to the exclusion of everything else–especially safety–is not good idea.
